The Asian Centre for Liver Diseases & Transplantation (ACLDT)

Company Profile

Listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, The Asian Centre for Liver Diseases & Transplantation (ACLDT) is the first private centre in Asia dedicated to the treatment of liver disease in adults and children. Established in 1994 by renowned liver transplant surgeon Dr Tan Kai Chah, it is today one of Asia's foremost liver centres with a dedicated Liver Ward and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to complement its highly successful Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) Programme.

Besides liver transplantation, the Centre treats the whole spectrum of liver diseases including liver cancer, viral hepatitis, biliary and pancreatic diseases, as well as gastro diseases. It is also the only commercial centre in the world to utilise different liver dialysis devices, namely IMPACT, ELAD* and MARS. In fact, several clinical trials, including that of a biological liver dialysis machine from the US, are currently being conducted within the centre.

Each year, ACLDT and its highly trained specialised physicians and surgeons treat about 8,000 patients, over 90% of which come from countries in South-east Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Russia. The Centre provides seamless and comprehensive care for its patients, including assistance with visa application and local accommodation, 24/7 emergency air evacuation services and outbound specialist attendance and evaluation.

To ensure that its doctors are always in touch with their patients, the Centre is equipped with tele-medicine facilities that enable long-distance consultations. Its Liver ICU is also equipped with cameras that allow doctors to monitor their patients' progress.

ACLDT has since broadened its expertise to provide other services beyond the treatment of liver diseases. These include preventive screening, gastroenterology and critical care services. It also actively helps to promote public awareness of various common liver conditions, preventive screening and vaccinations through the web, printed materials and public seminars.
