One of the biggest challenges SME CEOs face is not the lack of new growth opportunities but rather, the lack of good business leaders across all levels who can lead their companies to seize these opportunities.
Singapore’s growth-oriented enterprises need to build their management team at a much faster rate. If the company faces difficulty in attracting and retaining good staff, its ability to enter new markets, develop new products, and seize new business opportunities, will also be hindered.
Recognising these needs, SPRING launched the
Business Leaders Initiative to help groom SME bosses, build management depth and develop a strong pipeline of future business leaders for SMEs in Singapore.

Business Leaders Initiative is a comprehensive effort to develop SME business leaders, both present and future.
The
Advanced Management Programme (AMP) focuses on training SME business owners, CEOs and senior executives through customised management and leadership courses.
The
Management Development Scholarship (MDS) grooms promising young SME executives by co-sponsoring their MBA programmes with their employers.
The
Management Associate Partnership (MAP) partners high-growth SMEs to attract, develop and retain graduate talents for their growing operations. Young people contribute energy and ideas but also emphasise on career growth. SPRING will co-fund SMEs to train the graduates to run core and expanding operations of the company. The graduates will benefit from an accelerated learning path, coupled with coaching and mentoring by the SME senior management over an 18-month period. SPRING will also co-fund SMEs to enhance their overall HR and talent management practices.
The
Enterprise Internship Programme (EIP) aims to expose university and polytechnic students to the dynamic and rewarding working environment in high-growth SMEs through short-term internships. It will complement MAP in inspiring our young entrepreneurial talents during their school days to consider SMEs as an attractive career choice.
The
Business Advisors Programme (BAP) matches Business Advisors (BAs) as qualified professionals to SME projects. BAP enables SMEs to draw from the BAs’ experience, expertise and business contacts, to improve their businesses and processes. As of May 2011, Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) has been appointed by SPRING Singapore to administer the BAP.
To develop future business leaders, the
Executive Development Scholarship (EDS) provides local under-graduates who are passionate about setting up their own businesses or working in SMEs with full sponsorship of their studies and work attachments in local SMEs and SPRING.
