Building capabilities to raise productivity and enhance competitiveness of marine and offshore engineering industry

Key initiatives under the proposal
Promoting Productivity
ASMI will raise awareness on productivity methods, technology innovation and best practices to enhance corporate efficiency and competitiveness. In addition, it will promote the use of a Manpower Optimisation and Tracking System among shipyards and contractors, to plan and utilise labour more effectively.
Raising Skills Competency
ASMI plans to expand its existing training and skills certification roles as well as existing facilities to train, upgrade and certify the skills of the marine workforce. It will set up the Marine Industry Training Centre to increase the Association’s ability to provide customised training for industry members, especially the smaller shipyards and SMEs.
Building WSH Capabilities
WSH Checklists and Guidance Kits will be developed for key marine trades and core work processes, which together with safety workshops and seminars, aim to encourage compliance with workplace safety and health standards, share best practices and spur safety innovation.
Industry Promotion & Branding
ASMI will develop an industry promotion and marketing kit for use in industry promotion activities, publish a marine career catalogue, and organise annual marine competitions for schools, in a concerted effort to boost the image of marine professionals and encourage more individuals to choose marine as a career.
Overseas Market Outreach
ASMI will lead a delegation of marine companies on overseas business missions and networking sessions, and organise a local series of seminars on overseas markets, in collaboration with IE Singapore. This will create multiple platforms for local marine companies, in particular the SMEs, to profile their capabilities overseas and provide information about new markets and business opportunities.
