 Association of Process Industry (ASPRI)

Proposal title

Development Plan for the Singapore Process Supporting Industry

Vision

To transform the industry into a knowledge-based and highly-competitive one that can provide higher value-added services over the next 10 years. The ultimate aim is to strengthen the capabilities of members, enhance the professionalism of the industry, raising skills level and improve industry practices and techniques.

Key initiatives under the proposal

ASPRI’s proposal focuses on five key initiatives to further strengthen the industry, namely :

Help local enterprises tap outsourcing opportunities from MNC plant owners

ASPRI members are encouraged to form strategic consortia and economic groupings to bid for major outsourcing projects so as to leverage on their collective strengths and expertise. By grouping together, they will be in a stronger position to bid for overseas projects.

Develop and promote industry safety standards that can be applied across the chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors

ASPRI will develop a common standard for the process industry to reduce costs and duplication. It will work closely with the LIUP committee, MOM, BCA, and SPRING to incorporate elements of the SCC and OHSAS into the SS506, and will include additional elements that are specific to the requirements of the process industry.

Conduct studies on key market regions, organise business missions, facilitate business matching and promote networking with industry groups in regional countries

ASPRI will set up an International Business Unit (IBU) to manage its internationalisation efforts. The IBU will help form consortia and strategic alliances among companies keen to venture abroad. It will also organise business missions and participate in overseas exhibitions and seminars, and embark on market studies to learn about new business and industry technological trends. Focus will be on ASEAN, China, India and the Middle East.

Develop an e-portal with a central membership database that can be accessed by members who wish to complement one another in their business development

ASPRI will develop an industry-wide portal with an integrated membership database to enable sharing of information among members and business partners in Singapore and overseas. The database will also provide valuable information to enable the secretariat to perform industry analysis and company profiling purposes.

Upgrade the skills of workers to address the needs of the industry

ASPRI is a MOM accredited training provider. ASPRI will seek MOM’s approval to develop 6 theory training courses. It will develop the training contents to meet the process industry specific requirements.
