Proposal title

Enhancing the Singapore Land Logistics Industry and Competitiveness of Singapore Port to meet Global Challenges

Vision

Under the combined leadership and cohesive working relationship of CDAS, SLA and STA in the LEAD programme, the associations aspire to achieve the following goal – to build and strengthen key capabilities so as to enhance competitiveness and overall efficiency in the land logistics industry and Singapore Port.

Key initiatives under the proposal

CDAS/SLA/STA’s proposal focuses on three key initiatives to further strengthen the industry, namely :

Capabilities Development

SLA/CDAS/STA will help develop capabilities for the land logistics industry via setting up a dedicated Training Centre to offer courses aimed at :
  • enhancing the multi-skill capabilities and IT proficiency of the drivers of prime movers and fork lift operators.
  • improving safety standards, IT capabilities and operations know how of the front-end and back room workforce.
This dedicated Training Centre aims to train 1500 operational staff over the next 3 years.

Automation via deployment of technology

This project is a pilot trial involving the implementation and development of a Containerised Traffic System that will enable depot operators and trucking companies to work hand-in-hand with PSA to plan and deploy trailers and prime movers so as to optimise the depots and ports handling capacity.

The Containerised Traffic System is a 2-way data communication with job orders triggered by the hauliers/depot operators to drivers. The Containerised Traffic System will be integrated with the Goods Transportation System of PSA to enable 2-way data communication with hauliers/ drivers receiving instructions from PSA (as received from shipping lines). Faster turnaround time at the yard and ports would be achieved as a result of the implementation.

Industry Resource Platform

Inter-industry exchange sessions and overseas study missions to facilitate business networking and sharing of emerging trends of the logistics industry will be organised. These exchanges will provide members with a wider exposure to the global scenario for land and port logistics.

STA/CDAS web portal will be developed for the industry to provide a one-stop service centre for their members in jobs recruitment postings and job matching services for members, e-commerce and shared services (e.g. posting of outstanding jobs and industry sharing of excess trailers) and industry alerts (e.g. networking seminars, events, overseas missions and latest happenings).
