Enhancing the manufacturing sector through the Manufacturing Excellence Framework

Vision

  1. To assist all manufacturers to upgrade their internal and supply chain capabilities to stay competitive
  2. To formulate a new manufacturing strategy so that Singapore’s manufacturing sector not only survives the economic crisis but also emerges prepared for future growth

Key Initiatives under the Proposal

Competitive analysis

SMa will be commissioning a manufacturing sector review study to identify gaps and opportunities of the sector. The study will be an important avenue for SMa to pick out areas of improvement and development of the manufacturing sector, thereby assisting SMa in fine-tuning its strategies to provide appropriate guidance to its members.

Strengthening manufacturers

SMa will facilitate in encouraging members to upgrade their internal capabilities, market access and technical know-how. SMa will also be conducting training courses for manufacturing companies to equip their workers with relevant skills and capabilities.

Facilitating industry Collaboration

SMa will facilitate industry collaboration by creating consortia for companies across industries to work together to develop new products and processes for emerging markets. With such collaborations, SMa hopes to achieve waste reduction and resource optimization.

Business expansion and market access

SMa will ride on its international network and partnership with IE Singapore through the Exporter Development Programme (EDP) to equip members with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully penetrate into overseas markets.

Thought leadership

SMa will set up a Manufacturing Advisory Council to provide thought leadership to drive and review strategies for the Manufacturing Excellence Initiatives. The Council, which will include members from both Government and industry, will formulate new strategies for Singapore manufacturing over the next five years. SMa will also be inviting speakers to share their expertise in the SMa Distinguished Speaker Series of talks, seminars and workshops.
