Proposal Title

To Set Up a Shippers’ Academy and Develop an Online Freight Booking Centre

Vision

A sustainable and growing SME shippers’ community known for its expertise and responsiveness to changes.

Key Initiatives under the Proposal

Shippers’ Academy

To address the inability to recruit talents with the right skills sets, as well as the absence of a specific programme for shippers, SNSC has proposed a Shippers’ Academy to provide customized shippers’ courses.

The academy will offer a good mix of academic and practical courses for the SME shippers’ community, and seeks to :
  • Enhance shippers’ efficiency and knowledge
  • Benefit the shippers’ community in upgrading the skills and knowledge of its professionals

Freight Booking Centre

SNSC plans to leverage on IT to offer shippers a cost and time-effective shipping solution by introducing an online Freight Booking Centre (FBC). The FBC will be a neutral online platform with key features such as :
  • Allowing shippers to access real time information on vessel schedules and quotes by various shipping lines and freight forwarders
  • Enabling the consolidation of bookings by different shippers, so that they can secure the most competitive rates from shipping companies and freight forwarders.
The FBC will sharpen the competitiveness and productivity of SME shippers by allowing them to enjoy similar economies of scale to MNCs.
