Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (SVCA)
Proposal title
SVCA Development Plan
Vision
To develop and grow the Venture Capital (VC) and Private Equity (PE) industry so as to spur entrepreneurship and innovation in Singapore
Key initiatives under the proposal
Industry Standards and Research
SVCA will commission a set of industry standards and guidelines, and gain buy-in from members to abide by the agreed codes of conduct. SVCA will also conduct regular industry-wide surveys and subscribe to relevant databases, in order to study the contributions of the local VC industry, share intelligence, and benchmark itself against global best practices. In doing so, SVCA aims to develop Singapore as an established and trustworthy centre for VC and PE deal flows, with trickle-down effects for the local business community.
Education & Training
In order to improve overall industry expertise and train a steady supply of professionals, SVCA will deliver a series of workshops catering to a wide range of VC and PE professionals, as well as tie up with local universities to provide aspiring tertiary students with internship opportunities in members’ VC and PE firms. The internships will raise awareness of the VC and PE industry among young undergraduates, and raise the industry’s profile as an attractive career choice.
Industry Development
SVCA will engage promising local enterprises early, through entrepreneur workshops and pitching sessions, aimed at increasing the prospects of attaining VC funding among these enterprises. Through the workshops and pitching sessions, SVCA and its members will help to guide these promising companies to grow through their expertise and connectivity.
At the same time, SVCA will partake in overseas study missions to study best practices and establish partnerships with foreign VC and PE associations, as well as organise seminars and conferences in order to position Singapore as a key node of the VC industry and facilitate networking opportunities.
In addition, SVCA will also be organising the Biennial Regional VC/ PE Conference which will strengthen regional VC funds and attract investors into Singapore. SVCA will be positioned to promote Singapore as a choice location for high net worth individuals and limited partners (LP) to invest their capital. This will strengthen Singapore’s position as a regional VC hub for deal flows.
